A coral ring marks the note. Get your dot inside it and hold it there. Too high or too low, you see which way and by how much.

Also on the practice rack: a chromatic tuner with instrument presets, your choice of A (440, 442 or 432), a drone, a metronome that can find your tempo, a solfège game, vibrato you can watch, and a session card with your range.

Listen deeper

Put on a record and mirror your phone to the TV. The bass stays near the middle, the tune runs around the rim, and after a few songs you start to know the shapes before you know the names.

Understand it

One sung note is really a stack of them. This is an A at 220 Hz with its harmonics riding on top. The 2nd is the A an octave up. The 3rd lands near an E and the 5th near a C♯, so there's an A major chord hiding inside a single note.

The app shows your vibrato as it happens, drawn around the note.
